Lay out cones in a semi circle on the 21 yard line. The cones should be positioned so that the keeper does not go beyond "the cage" after taking a maximum of 3 steps in any direction. Lay out five sets of cones to act as targets and name as pockets 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7
Focus on kicking to one target/pocket for 6 kick outs then move to targeting the next pocket. Encourage the keeper to take all 3 steps and face the direction in which he/she wants the kick to go in. A mximum of 3 steps allows the keeper to efficiently arc their movement if required to kick to another pocket. Study keepers different technique for kicking into the various pockets Progression: 1. Coach calls different pocket of choice "after" keeper places ball on tee. 2. Coach calls a 1st then a 2nd pocket so keeper must change kick out, as in a match if the first window is closed and a different choice of KO must be executed.
