Setup: Place two cones on the 13-meter line at least 25 yards from the center of the goal. One player on each cone and the third player assumes the role of the goalkeeper. Drill: The goalkeeper assumes the âreadyâ position in the center of the goal. They side-step to either post âworking the arcâ as they go. Immediately upon arriving at the post, the player will tap the post and the striker will attempt to âcross-upâ the keeper by passing to the open space on the other side of the keeper from the post. The keeper will then deflect, recover, and return the ball. The keeper then returns to center in the âreadyâ position before moving to the other side.
Focus: Deflections should be easily recoverable. The goalkeeper should maintain good form when moving. Duration: 10 balls total, 5 per side. Modification: Strike to the feet. Clearance strikes come from the same side as the deflection.
