Community | Knock The Cones (Court Game)

Judes 2011 Girls Coach, Ireland

DESCRIPTION

Set up a gauntlet using cones, divide kids evenly on both sides of the gauntlet (blue cones). Give each kid (red A) a ball. On the whistle the kids must try and knock over the orange traffic cones by kicking the ball out of their hands. If they knock a cone over the must run over to pick it back up and they can take a red cone as a counter. They can have another go by grabbing a nearby ball. See who has the most cones after 5 minutes. Coaches should move from child to child helping them with their technique. If they are throwing up the ball ask them should they be throwing up the ball or dropping it. Demonstrate to the child the correct technique if they are still throwing up the ball and ask them are you throwing up or dropping the ball. If kicking from the hand is too difficult get them to kick from the ground. Repeat for non dominant side.

COACHING POINTS

Get them to step forward with their non kicking foot before kicking. Get them to drop/release the ball from the hand on same side as the kicking foot, discourage throwing the ball up in the air before kicking. Get them to point the toe where they want the ball to go.
