Setup: Place 5 cones in a line, 1-1.5 yards between each. Five yards from both ends, place a par of cones 3-4 yards apart perpendicular to the middle cones (âgatesâ). The drill begins with one player between the pair at one end and the other 2 players (one at each end) 10 yards away from the âgateâ cones. Drill: The player at the gate moves at pace to the first cone in the line of five. The object is to weave or âcutâ in and out of the gaps between cones to reach the far end, enter the âgateâ, assumer the ready position and receive a chest-high pass. Return to the other end in the same fashion.
Focus: Clean footwork is important here. The player performing the drill should execute short, choppy steps to decelerate before planting to change direction. At no time should the playerâs feet cross over each other. Duration: 2.5 âlapsâ or 5 one-way traversals. Modification: Pass to the feet. Overhead catch. First touch.
