Judes 2011 Girls Coach, Ireland

DESCRIPTION

Put two pop up bins in proximity to each other. Put a ring of Orange cones around each bin, 1 meter radius away. Put a ring of Yellow cones around each bin, 2 meters radius away. Get the Red As to surround one bin and the Blue Ds to surround the other. Make sure they stay outside the Orange cones to start. Give every child a football. On the whistle both teams have 1 minute to handpass as many balls into the bins as possible. Coach beside each bin to keep count and pull balls out when they land inside. Players can grab any loose ball but must go back outside orange cones before attemping another handpass. Compare totals after 1 minute. Repeat then for non dominant hand. Compare totals again after 1 minute. Then set the Yellow cones as the new boundary. All handpasses must be attempted from outside ring of Yellow cones. Compare totals after 1 minute. Repeat then for non dominant hand.

COACHING POINTS

Ask them are they more accurate with open or closed hands. Ask them can they strike the ball further with open or closed hands. With the handpass make sure they are striking or pushing the ball off their hand. The hand holding the ball shouldn't move far after the strike. Make sure if they are striking with their right hand that their left foot is forward and vice versa.
