how do you teach shooting to university students who are all beginners?
to be a consistent and accurate shooter is a very technical skill, and can be achieved at any age. watch a lot of you tube drills and they will give you some great ideas on how to teach it. the basics are the feet should be about hip width apart and facing in the direction of the goal ring, the ball should be held above the head and slightly in front, on an open hand resting on the fingers more than the palm, and not held but resting, and the other hand is used to support the ball staying in position. the elbow of the shooting hand bends but stays basically in the same position, and knees bend at the same time and then in unionisome are both straightened, pushing the ball towards the goal. the wrist of the shooting hand basically flicks in a motion that would look like a kid trying to close a cookie jar lid on the top shelf, and ball is pushed from the hand leaving the fingers last. the shooter should tend to aim for the back of the rim so the ball that is now moving towards the goal, but rotation around towards the shooter should go through cleanly though the goal, but if it hits the back rim, will spin towards the goal.
thats it basically but have seen so many different styles that seem to work for the shooter. but if i were you id just look on the net for some drills. there are some really good ones out there.
