I am a new coach who has a team of 8 under 9âs. 4 have played before 4 have not. How should I rotate them so they all get a equal time on court and should I put the same player all in attack for the whole game and all in defense for the whole game to make it less confusing for them. Thanks

Hi Tamara,
It would be beneficial for all new players to try their hand at every position before they get settled into to a specific position. Doing this will let you see who plays better in certain positions and also let your players get a feel for which position they enjoy playing. It will also give them the full court knowledge of what is expected in each role. After you`ve seen which of your players are suited to certain positions, you can then increase the consistency of players sticking to position.

You can also use a rotation spreadsheet to help you out which can be found on the Netball home page under the extras section.
You should spend as much time as possible at Training playing half-court. Just to give you some sort of starting point you could try someone small and quick in Centrecourt. Try someone very tall at Shooter etc. Move one girl at a time and record how she goes. Then go on to the next girl and do the same After a while some girl`s abilities will start to show.Once you have an inkling you can try to develop them. Actual games are different..Because you have 8 players you have to rotate one girl off each quarter. To be fair to your "new player" you would, I believe, have to give them half a game - one quarter is insufficient. This means that in the second half you would rotate off 1 more "established girl" each quarter to give another new girl half a game. New girls 3 and 4 get half a game the following week. Alternatively you could change only one girl each quarter and all girls would then play each week. It really does depend on the ages of the girls and how serious the competition is. I would place each newcomer at WD in a game situation as they would have experienced girls passing to them and experienced girls to pass the ball on to. I wish you luck - building a team from 4 players is very difficult. Regards, Ken Hamilton..

Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
