If I have the netball in my hands and my teammates are not coming forward to the ball and its nearly been three seconds, whats is my best option to do, instead of giving away a free pass to the opposition (held ball)?
pass the ball into any space down the court with the hope that one of your players will be able to get to it first. try and pick a spot that you have players near, but at the very least the other team will not be given a free pass where you are no matter what.
Agree , best to make some sort of pass that may go to your team mate rather than not attempting anything which means the opposition definitely get possession .Also, just a thought, are you looking behind you for passing options as well as in front? Never be afraid to make a back pass to a defender behind you - Assuming you aren`t the GK :-)
I agree with Lee-annes comments but would suggest you make the pass as deep into your attack as possible to a side away from defenders. If the ball goes out of court, over a third or is picked up the opposition your team has more time to reset to delay/intercept the next pass. Looking to pass behind is an option but a risky one which should be done early in the 3 second timeframe to a very safe offer as leaving it to the last moment leaves no other option but to potentially make a risky pass. Passing decisions should follow (1) look down court first, (2) look for backup from players behind and (3) if still no safe offer then look down court again and if necessary, pass into safe space deep in next third.
