Could enlighten me on some helpful tips or tricks on passes to the "D" and within between the mid court to the shooters. Also on some drills regarding their footwork since that was one of the weaknesses that we found. Mistake on stepping and not being able to maintain balance.
lack of balance is a very common issue with players. have them practise passing on one foot. also have them run a few steps, take off and then land on one foot and hold for 3 seconds. then add a ball in. then add different directions. also core strength drills will help improve their core and therefore improve their balance.
getting the ball intot he circle is all about opening up space, and not crowding. my girls do a lot of work on cutting across court and not down the line. this has helped their game a lot this year. so if you start with some standard set plays, C to WA to the GS (who has driven to the same side of the WA pass) to GA (who has run hard into the circle). thats a very easy sequence and shows the players where they should be running. always making sure that where they are running to is not interferring with anyone elses pass are drive. we play a lot of half court and i will constantly stop them to show them where they should be running to to help open up the court.
running a basic zig zag passing drill where the girls have to pass and then run to that position that they threw it to is a good start. once they have the basic idea, then you can widen the cones to eventually having it the size of your court.
hope that helps.
