Hi Subh,
As a GD it is important that you are always on your toes and ready to intercept passes going into the shooters. Another aspect that will be key for you is to ensure you get your distance (3 feet) before you put your arms up and over any shots. Staying in the game is vital, so try to avoid any silly penalties! Take a look at the drill I have attached to give you some tips on defending.
It is also important that you are an option for your attacking players, especially off your centre passes! Try to get free and offer for the ball.
Hope this helps and good luck for your game!

Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
