'Change of pace' skill session

'Change of pace' skill session

Hi I'm looking for some drills that focus on change on pace, is there anything that you can suggest?

i tend to teach that in with a preliminary moves lesson. so am teaching the team about how to get away from your player and break them into groups and they each rotate around learning maybe 4 different skills. then bring them together and have them use them indiviually to get the ball, and then add a defence player. from there you can do a halfcourt drill where they have to do a preliminary move to get the ball, and if they dont the other team is awarded the ball. (or you can not have defence and if they can get the ball from one end to another with everyone doing a preliminary move then they score a point. see how many points they can get in a certain time frame. then add the defence when you are happy and turn the ball over when someone doesnt do a preliminary move to get the ball)

for some reason most younger players are so focussed on getting the ball that they forget that they want to get away from their player first. change of pace is one of the last things they think about for some reason, even though it is one of the best and easiest as it just puts their player onto the back foot when they have no idea what they are going to do next.

hope that helps.
