Session 1: Handling and Introduction to Unit Plays
Objectives:
Introduction: Sit down with the players and discuss the pre-season aims, discuss the player contract and gain the committment to the schedule. This is important for the first session. Hand out the Strategy Document / Play Book.
Philosophy: How your team are going to play the game
and the coaching team's expectations of the players.
Options Plays: Every team needs a platform to play the game from any
position on the field. We will introduce 6 option plays over the coming
weeks that all the players will understand and can use wherever they
are on the pitch.
Positional Skills Sessions ('PSS'): We will encourage
the development of your players' key positional skills within every session.
These are a key element of your input into your players and this needs
to be communicated and included in every session.

What you say
"Sportplan is fantastic. I can now track all my coaches’ sessions from
one season to the next and make adjustments where we feel they are
needed. The drills are easy to view and all aspects of the game are
covered. My sessions have become more focussed and better planned thanks
to Sportplan."
Craig Carolan
Head of Hockey, Whitgift School.
