Netball: 3 Feet Marking

DESCRIPTION

*AUDIO DESCRIPTION ON*

  • Set up in pairs
  • 1 partner (A) has the ball.
  • Partner A faces away from partner B.
  • A Passes the ball in the air to themself and turns.
  • Partner B jumps back to 3 feet distance and immediately puts arms up to defend the ball. 
  • Player A moves ball around and player B is to track the ball. 
  • Switch over players. 

COACHING POINTS

  • Ensure players know what 3 feet looks like and they get a feel for the distance.
  • Players to react to the ball both jumping back to the correct distance when Player A turns and tracking the ball as Player A moves it.
  • In a shooting situation, defenders to learn what side the shooter shoots from and defend that side. 
  • Defenders to get quick feet around and arms up. 

PROGRESSION

  • Have the partner with the ball pretend they are taking a shot from a particular side. 
  • Defendng partner must learn which side the shooter shoots from and react to defend that side.
