Steve, Clayesmore Prep School

DESCRIPTION

*AUDIO DESCRIPTION ON*

  • Goalkeeper Taps bouncing ball with furthest hand then makes a save from a shot with nearest hand
  • Introduce cone as a target area to focus the server and a cone can be introduced to get the goalkeeper to dive forward

Notes:

  • Make sure goalkeeper pats the ball away with the palm
  • Transfer weight onto foot nearest the ball
  • Get down low early and ball to the same height as the ball.
  • Get full palm on the ball thumb pointing to the sky
  • Bring trailing arm over to secure the ball
  • Introduce safe parry zones if ball cannot be held

COACHING POINTS

  • If goalkeeper is repeatedly diving on stomach use a small ball and get the goalkeeper to keep in trailing hand to prevent over rotation.
  • Add a cone slightly forward of the GK's feet to promote a foward diving motion
  • The closer the ball is to the body GK may need to have hands further in front

PROGRESSION

  • Bring in players to finish any parried shots
  • Attacker cannot enter safe zones
  • Vary service and introduce bouncing shots
