Soccer: Long Shots Outside of the Area

Goalkeeper positioning is vital when dealing with shots from long range. Develop your keepers concentration, positioning and movement to be solid behind the speculative efforts

• 3 servers set up outside of the area on a line, one off to the right, one central and one to the left. 
• Cone set up on the edge of the goalkeepers box in front of the goal.
• Servers take turns shooting at goal. 
• Goalkeepers advance around the cone and then retreat and gets set for saving the shot.

• Four service points marked out by coloured cones on the edge of the area.
• The coach stands behind the goalkeeper with a set of corresponding coloured cones.
• The coach holds up a cone and the server on that coloured cone takes a shot from distance.

• Make a small and narrow pitch with two goals each end and a halfway line marked with cones.
• Two goalkeepers each end and up to 3 players on each team.
• Players take shots at from behind the halfway line and keep a tally of the score.
• Goalkeepers can score with volleys or throws.
• When a goal is scored, goalkeeper rotates out and a player goes in goal.

Working in twos, with one ball, the keeper must catch the feed into their stomach, throw it back and then backtrack around each pole.

After they've run around the pole, taking small and speedy steps they move out ready to take the next feed.
