Goalkeepers reactions need to be sharp when shots are coming from in close. Work on your keepers ability to get something behind the ball even when they might not know much about it

  • 4 Goalkeepers working
  • 6yd x 6 yd Square
  • 2 Goalkeepers have a ball each and serve to the goalkeeper opposite simultaneously, trying to get the balls to collide to create a deflection


Start with goalkeepers rolling the balls as they are more likely to get the balls to collide.

Coaching points

  • Goalkeeper waiting to receive the ball should be in the set position.
  • Hands forward and away from the body.
  • Feet off the heels and weight forward, not too wide a stance and feet should be shoulder width apart and parallel to the server.


Vary the service eg volleys, strikes from the ground, bouncing throws
