Soccer: Fast Hands

GK starts in centre of the goal and a row of cones are placed to one side of the goal. With quick feet the GK flicks one of the cones with their leading hand and quickly gets into set position to make a save.

*AUDIO DESCRIPTION ON* Set up 4 mini goals using cones. These do not need to be large as we are still working on movement. First goalkeeper moves to the byline and plays a cutback ball along the ground. The goalkeeper makes a save. If the ball is secured the goalkeeper working then comes out of the back of their mini goal, rolls a ball to themselves and then cuts the ball back to the next goalkeeper. Walk through the drill to begin with and do a full set so all of the goalkeepers know their role Repeat until a full set has been completed. If ball is parried into danger zone GK to get up fast and try and get into line with the ball to block the impending shot

*AUDIO DESCRIPTION ON* Goalkeeper deals with the cut back. If the goalkeeper secures the ball then returns it to the server whilst still on the ground followed by a shot. You can start with a volley into hands then get the goalkeeper into dive The serve needs to be powerful enough to challenge the goalkeeper as we will now introduce a shot. If the goalkeeper parries the ball the striker should shoot using the ball in play

*AUDIO DESCRIPTION ON* Goalkeeper to start on the flat disc in centre of the goal and get used to movement turning in to the near post. Goalkeeper, when getting set for the serve should be slightly more than arms length from the post and slightly in front of post. Server volleys into hands.

Set up 3 mini goals or small gates marked out with cones facing towards a goal. Have 3 players behind each mini goal. The ball is played into the Goalkeeper from various areas on the pitch. As the ball is passed back to the Goalkeeper 2 of the players step in front of their mini goal, leaving 1 minigoal free for the Goalkeeper to play into. The player who's mini goal is played into can take a shot if the Goalkeeper successfully hits the goal. If the ball travels past the mini goal and is missed then the player takes a shot with that ball which becomes live.  

Start with one Goalkeeper, 3 defenders and 2 attackers. Set up 2 mini goals outside and wide of the penalty box. Ball is played back to the Goalkeeper from one of the defending team. As soon as the ball is played back the attacking team are live and can apply pressure.  Goalkeeper passes out to defending team who pass back again to Goalkeeper. The aim is to get 2 back passes in. Once 2 back passes have been achieved, a shot at 1 of the 2 mini goals can be taken. If the attacking team intercept, they are able to take a shot at the mini goals straight away. Once one sequence has been achieved, rotate Goalkeeper.   

Starting on the middle cone the keeper moves out to their right to catch the first feed. After getting back to their feet and rolling the ball back out they side-step back towards the middle cone, ready to dive and catch the next rolled ball from the second feeder.

Players start on their knees and roll down to their left or right depending on the feed to catch the ball.

GK starts in set position, in the middle of the goal. Server 1 rolls the ball along the ground into the corner for the GK to make a low down save.  GK returns the ball whilst still on the ground and then gets back to their feet and shuffles across the goal. Server 2 use rebound net to give the GK a high save in the opposite corner.

Players sprint around discs to get into position. One is a goalkeeper and one is an outfield player who is to shoot. Red player rolls a ball down between the discs when players have begun to run. Swap lines after one repetition.

Mannequin or player stood in the centre of the goal to act as a screen. Server 1 plays a volley for the goalkeeper to catch. The goalkeeper makes sure of the catch and returns it to the server. The goalkeeper then moves around the screening player to get a volley from server 2. NOTES: Observe the goalkeepers movement from behind to ensure that they are getting into line with the ball. Also, check from the side to ensure that the goalkeeper's weight is forward and hands are away from the body.

*AUDIO DESCRIPTION ON* 4 Goalkeepers working Server 1 opposite the goalkeeper and server 2 and server 3 to either side of the goalkeeper that is working. Server 1 volleys into the goalkeeper then server 2 gently throws the ball at head height to the goalkeeper. The goalkeeper  then uses one hand to push the ball back to server 2. Server 1 volleys then goalkeeper gets a serve from the opposite side from server 3. NOTE: Start slowly and then increase the pace so the goalkeeper is working as fast as they can whilst still making sure of the catch from server 1.

4 Goalkeepers working 6yd x 6 yd Square 2 Goalkeepers have a ball each and serve to the goalkeeper opposite simultaneously, trying to get the balls to collide to create a deflection NOTE:  Start with goalkeepers rolling the balls as they are more likely to get the balls to collide.

*AUDIO DESCRIPTION ON* Goalkeeper starts on the near post after every service. A ball is played from server 1 for server 2 to do a side foot volley. Server 1 should have a good supply of balls to keep server 2 supplied with volleys. NOTES: Allow the goalkeeper time to recover to the feet. If the server is struggling to play side foot volley then S2 can serve from a volley out of the hands

*AUDIO DESCRIPTION ON* Goalkeeper comes in from side goes to furthest near post receives a shot or throw into hands, returns ball to server and moves backward. Goalkeeper then works through cones set up in front of the goal with fast footwork and receives a shot from the front of the goal into hands and returns to Server 2. Goalkeeper then moves to the far Server around a cone placed between Server 3 and the goal, and receives a shot down low into dive.

*AUDIO DESCRIPTION ON* Set up evenly spaced line of cones in front of a goal with two hurdles (or set out hurdles with more cones) either end of the line of cones. Server out in front. GK jumps over the hurdle side on and back to the goal. Goalkeeper performs footwork through the cones. As soon as the GK gets to the middle cone (make this cone a different colour to the others for ease) Server plays a ball for the GK to save. Start with server playing the ball into the hands Swap sides entering the line from.

Set up a square of cones in front of the goal. Goalkeeper makes distinctive movements around the square towards any of the four cones with changes of direction. Server then plays a shot at random intervals.
