Batting Technique

Players work in fours with one batter, one bowler and two fielders. The basic structure of this drill is that the ball is bowled to the batter who has to try and hit the ball. To improve hand-eye coordination there are 3 stages to this drill. Firstly the batting player should hit the ball with their hand (or yellow hand CP where available), then with a paddle bat and lastly a rounders bat.

Flik it Board

Feeder places ball on Flik it board and times her stamp to enable the batter to hit the ball

Batting

hit the ball through an area

In this game the batter tries to score as many rounders as they can by hitting the ball through the area so it either flies over or rolls through the area out the end or either side. The only criteria is that the ball has top enter the front of the area to be able to score a rounder. When the ball is caught the catching fielder becomes the bowler the bowler becomes the batter and the batter becomes a fielder

Hoop Hit Warm Up

Mark out a 12m track with cones. Players work in 3's with 1 hoop. Each player stands 2m apart. Player A hits the soft ball with their hand through the hoop (held by B) to C. This continues with all players moving positions i.e. C hits through hoop held by A to B until they reach the end of the 12m track. Repeat drill on return.

Batting

Keepy Uppys

Set up in 2's with 1 bat and a ball. The aim here is to keep the ball up in the air by hitting it lightly with the bat. If the ball hits the ground it becomes your partner's turn.

Batting

Spot Hits

Set up in groups of 5. 3 different coloured spots are placed in a triangle in front of the batter, with 3 fielders placed directly in line with the spots about 5m away. Player 3 bowls a tennis ball to player 1 who tries to hit the ball with their hand to players 2, 3, and 4. Group rotates after 3 hits i.e 1 to 5, 5 to 2, 2 to 3, 3 to 4, 4 to 1.

Batting

team scatterball

Divide players into two teams, one fielding and one batting. The fielding team bowls 4 consecutive balls to a better. Once the batter has hit all 4 balls into the field, all of the batters on the batting team must run around all the bases at the same time, as many times as they can before all of the balls have been returned by the fielding team. The next batter then does the same, and all of the batters run when all 4 balls have been hit. Do this for each batter on the batting team, before the fielding team goes in to bat. Winner is the team with the most rounders scored.
