DESCRIPTION

Set the pitch out as shown lots of ball son the side line. The 2 teams play normal 5 a-side. When the whistle goes player in possession leaves the ball and runs to the side line to continue play with a new ball. The rest of the team have to clear the last ball off the pitch (for safety)

COACHING POINTS

Another way this game can be played is by Numbering the players. When the whistle goes and coach names a number that player has to go to the side line and retstart the game with a self pass.

speed up the self pass

2 teams

set out 2 small triangles with 1 meter sides.

1 player from each team and a ball stand inside the triangle inside the 5 metres area.

on the whistle the players have to take the ball to the 5 metre line and take a self pass around one of the 2 cones and run into the D and take a shot at goal.

First player to score wins the point for their team.

Next players get ready.

Players run into the triangle stop the ball by the cone.

Player the should take a self pass by pulling the ball back away from the cone before running out of the triangle left or right and passing the ball to the front of the opposite queue of players.

Self Pass to create 2 vs 1

2 v 1 with depth.

Blue player starts with a self pass and runs at the defender with the option of then passing the ball to the deep player or taking the defender on themselves.

The defender is allowed to move to try and win the ball.

When the ball reaches the other side the practice reverses and continues in the other direction.

Warm up exercise for vision and talking

Spread your team anywhere inside the half of a pitch. Only give your team 3 balls.

You may pass the ball around to anyone inside the half. This will create a lot of talking and activity.

Do this exercise for about 5 minutes. It is important that the players keep talking and moving off the ball, always making themselves available to receive the ball.

For quick decision making do the same exercise inside the circle.

Team relay

Four teams of 3 or 4 players. Put one goal 15m over the half way line so the half way line is the top of the circle. The four team teams, one playing and one on the 23m line, are working in two partnerships - whites vs blues. Team 1 starts with the ball and tries to score against team 2. When team 2 gain possession, either after a goal or tackle, they have to pass the ball to team 3 who now can try and score in the other goal. Team 1 has to run back and defend. When team 1 win the ball they have to pass the ball to team 4 who attack against team 3 etc. After a team has passed the ball to their partner team they take their place at the 23m line and wait for their chance to attack.
