You can't score goals if you don't have possession of the Football! Teams that can control possession of the Football, generally control the tempo and outcome of the game. That being said, just having the majority of possession isn't going to win you games. It's important that as a team you can use the ball wisely to exploit the opposition.
What's in the session?
This session is focused on utilising possession to break down, dislodge and exploit the opposition's shape.
Players will understand how effective possession will provide opportunities to play through the opposition and create goal scoring opportunities.
We will look at passing and receiving qualities, decision making, ball manipulation, speed and timing of movement and keeping possession whilst letting the ball do the work.
The session is aimed at players U14+.
Develop your defenders understanding of how to channel the attackers away from danger areas to slow down attacks and isolate the opposition players.
Teach all your players how to stand up and resist the temptation to dive in. Instead jockey players and wait for the right moment to make the interception!
Drum in the defensive roles and responsibilities of your players and make sure they understand what you want from them in order to win the ball back and turn defence into attack.
Develop your players understanding of space and how their movement (or even lack of at times) can create space to play in the midfield.
Create a resolution to develop your coaching confidence by seizing the opportunity to discover new drills, turn ideas into action and seek advice from the coaching community.
