Football: Footwork Through the Hoops

The best keepers in the world use their feet to make saves and to always be in the right position. Their agility and bounce comes from the timing and accuracy of their footwork. Work your keepers with this session.

*AUDIO DESCRIPTION ON*

• Set up 1 hurdle with 2 cones either side to indicate where the step is to be taken, then a wider cone to indicate the goal
• Goalkeeper jumps over the hurdle and into set position
• Takes one small step with nearest foot then goes into dive

• Goalkeeper starts behind the hurdle
• Jumps into set position and performs footwork between the the cones
• Into save at the end

NOTES:

• To avoid queues when working with bigger groups of goalkeepers reduce the number of cones to do the footwork through.
• Also have a group working in front and behind simultaneously

*AUDIO DESCRIPTION ON*

• Set up 4 cones in a square in front of the goal with a 5th cone off to the side of the square.
• Goalkeeper to enter the goal from the side and hit the closest corner.
• Goalkeeper then moves forward up one side of the square and back through the square on a diagonal to the other back corner
• Then straight up the other side of the square and around the Server to then shoot and Goalkeeper to save.
• Once GK has received a shot they take the ball with them and join the back of the shooting line.
• Server then goes round the back of the line to join the Goalkeeper line.

• Set up a line of cones across front of goal with two cones placed further forward and wide to the line of cones. Servers set outside area off to one side of the cones.
• Goalkeeper first time round two feet between the cones, second hop between cones, third time double stepping side on to cones. 
• Once footwork performed, goalkeeper has to get round the furthest cone and then back into line to save the shot
• GK makes the save then joins back of Server line
• Server joins GK Line
