Hockey: Back foot shot

- Receiving the aerial ball on the reverse side - Looking to cushion the ball onto the back foot, and drag the ball across the body   

- Lifting the ball up and over the opposition on the move on the reverse side

Players can use this technique when passing or shooting at goal. Hold the stick with your palms facing upwards and turn the stick so that the flat side of the hook is facing the sky. The back swing should be short and remain close to the ground. Place your weight onto your right foot, with the ball slightly in front. For a pass/ sweep shot ensure you get low and hit the middle of the ball. For a controlled lifted shot players should hit into the back of the ball.

The ball is stopped with the stick rolled into the circle for it then to be passed across the top of the Circle with the handle of the stick by the stopper, just before or after the dummy hit by the striker.

The sweep is a variation from the hit pass. The grip and stance are the same the ball is placed in line with the front foot. The stick is drawn back a short way and swept forwards along the ground to strike the ball.
