Hockey: Opposed Shooting: Flick and Push

Excellent, used the drills at our first training session today with...
Shane, Hockey Coach

DESCRIPTION

- Two active players (one forward, one defender) and a feeder
- The feeder passes the ball into the forward, while the defend puts pressure on the forward
- The forward should push or the flick the ball at goal
- The defender becomes the new forward

COACHING POINTS

- The forward should have plenty of time to get their shot off, and therefore shouldn't rush the trap
- The shot at goal should be aimed at the sideboards, and not slammed into the keeper
- The forward should be trapping and shooting. No need to move the ball
The goalkeeper should be aware of the defenders position, and should therefore position themselves accordingly
