Hockey: Spy Tag

Speed slaloms - try and go through slaloms as fast as possible. Left hand slalom is open stick only, players must go to the left of cone 1. Right hand slalom uses the indian dribble technique. On reaching the final 3 cones (a defender) players can go to the left or right.

- Carrying the ball in a small area - Players should move in multiple directions - Practice v-drags, roll outs etc.

Player runs up and down slalom. Players should look ahead of the ball.

All players with a stick and a ball. One player without stick and ball is the catcher they have to try and tag as many players with a ball. When a player has been caught they have to stand on the spot with feet apart. They can be released by only one player. The Spy , pushing the ball between the feet of the caught player.

Player 1 starts by running with the ball to the right hand cone, keeping the ball in contact with the stick. The player opposite them holds their stick above their head. On lowering the stick to the floor the player must pass the ball to the next player (Red Player 1). When the red number 1 receives the ball they mirror the move coming from either direction.

Player runs up and down the slalom.

Set up mini-gates consisting of one cone and three other cones beside one anothe (preferably two different colours). Players take it in turn to run through the gate and then reverse stick drag the ball behind the line of cones before running to the next gate.

One ball between three or four. Front player runs with the ball in any direction, rest of the players follow. On the whistle the front player leaves the ball and goes to the back. Next player takes over etc;

Place three cones approximately 2 meters apart in a zig-zag pattern. Players take it in turn to dribble at each cone. Upon reaching the cones they must turn out 360° before then running towards the next cone to repeat the skill in the other direction.

- Attacking at pace - Change of pace eliminates first player - Large drag eliminates the second defender - Forward makes consious choice to move ball right as opposed to left against the second defender

Set up with 8 cones Single player exercise, performing two v-drags in a set of cones Runs up to first cone, perform a v-drag, before rolling round with a strong body position Same again with next set of cones.

- Perform a V-drag and then roll strong - Can perform 2 practices per rotation - V-drag from left to right at first red cone - Roll strong at blue (1st run) and yellow (second run) cones

- An introduction into the V-Drag - The ball is moved in a 'v' shape motion, from the left foot to the right foot - A very useful elimination skill

- Practicing moving the ball from the right to the left foot and back again - This a dramatisation to emphasise how the weight of the player should move with the ball - Excellent for beginners
