Balanced For Success

To encourage the pupil to develop a feel for the correct balance following the posture drill Encourage the pupil to follow the Bow and bounce exercise, then without moving the club or body position excessively, encourage the pupil to rock between the heels (1) and toes (2) to ensure the weight is correctly balanced on the balls of the feet.

encourage the pupil to adopt a correct posture routine and good balance for the swing Pupils begin by holding the club at waist height and parallel to the ground, looking straight forward (1). Tip from the hips, keeping the back straight, allowing the club to fall until the club reaches the ground (2). Gently soften the knees until the knees are above the middle of the feet (3). The weight should be felt equally on the balls of the feet.

Slide the hand furthest from the target down, close the fingers with the thumbs pointing down the centre of the shaft, but ensure that the hands are still close together.

To encourage the pupil to check for a correct hold technique. Pupils begin by taking their completed hold of the club. Take a coin and place it between the pupil's thumb and forefinger. The pupil should be able to hold a coin between the thumb and forefinger of both hands. The coins should point towards the rear shoulder.

To encourage the pupil adopt the correct stance and ball position for the long game with iron clubs Encourage the pupil to stand with the feet together pointing toward the ball (1), move the foot nearest to the target around a club head width (2). Then move the rear foot to shoulder width (2/3 club head widths) (3) This should position the ball 4-5cm inside the left heel.
