What is a good warm up for a professional hockey team?
Team talk focusing on overall match objectives - stretching - small space game - attackers shooting, defenders & midfield ball pace skills - half pitch attack V defence - take on water - last team talk focusing on first 10 min - sprints - start
Why stretching? In my opinion stretching is contra productive in a warming-up.
Stretching increases the elasticity of the ligaments, meaning after stretching routines have been carried ou correctly there should be less resistance or increased flexibility. Therefore when lunging or stretching for loose balls there is less risk of injury
I assume the pre stretching is dynamic as opposed to static?
@Claire Hancock, u r right Pre match stretching must not b static but dynamic otherwise static stretching may slower ur body.
There is nothing wrong with starting with static and moving to dynamic. Also I am not aware of any research out there that suggestd static is any less effective than dynamic. It could be argued that dynamic improves the players mind set and is a pyschological benefit.
