3 second apply for goalkeeper or not

the ball is in goalkeeper's hand..is 3 seconds apply for goalkeeper or not? He is about to throw the ball but his every player has man to man check and he can't throw the ball for 3 second or more than 3 seconds. what will be the decision of Refree at that condition?

Hi Dinesh,

The rule is that even the goalkeeper cannot hold the ball for more than three seconds or take three steps without dribbling. But all the goalkeeper has to do is bounce the ball to give himself an extra three seconds.

What the referee will decide is very much dependent on the individual. I think if the goalkeeper tries to pass but then the pass is marked and it takes him an extra second to bounce the ball again the referee will be slightly lenient. Especially at more junior levels.

The goalkeeper is only exempt from the kicking rule (they are allowed to kick)
