Jason King Coach, England

DESCRIPTION

Player 1 will take a ball at the start point and pass it with power across the pitch to player 2 who will run through the gate identified in blue on the sketch. Player 2 will make a first time pass to Player 3 who will run through the gate marked on the sketch in red and then pass first time to the waiting player 4. Player 4 will use his first touch to spin the defender (If used) and make room to get a quick shot away onto goal. Once the players have finished their task they are to move to the next station and rotate clockwise until the drill is finished. PROGRESSION: (1) The coach can start to shadow players applying a little pressure so that the players will have to make decisions on which way they turn, shield the ball and retain possession. (2) Optional. Add a goalkeeper to make placing shots more difficult. (3) Place hoops in the corners of the goal to promote accuracy of shooting from the players. Challenge them with a points per goal game through a hoop. 2 points for a normal goal and 5 points through the hoop for example. Author: Jason King, Windsor FC Youth

COACHING POINTS

Coaches to help the players understand their roles and how the drill works. Make sure that the players are focused and are making their own decisions and adapting to what is going on around them. Ask the players individually at random what they have been tasked to do and if they understand the role. If the move fails can they adapt and find a solution to the problem. Coaches are to be vocal in the drill initially to get them carrying out the drill in a quick manner. When the players start to understand the drill, withdraw yourself and let them carry it out themselves only intervening when you identify a mistake. Technical: Pass and receive. Close control. Finishing. Physical: Movement. Agility. Balance. Co-ordination. Strength. Social: Communication. Team work. Psychological: Focus. Observation.
