
Set Up: The playing area is created with two zones. In zone 1 there are equall numbers of attackers and defenders. In zone 2 the defenders face an overload. The session begins with the ball being played to the defenders in zone 2, despite facing an overload the defenders look to keep possession for as long as possible. The attackers look to press together to win possession. At this point only the players within zone 2 are active. Upon winning possession the attackers look to play into their front players inside zone 1. As soon as they have won possession all players become active. At this point the defender on the outside of the area becomes active and can enter the area. If the defending team wins possession back the defender who started on the outside of the playing area must retreat to their starting position. Scoring: The attacking team scores in the big goal. The defending team scores by making a successful pass to the defender who has retreated outside of the playing area.
Pressing: The nearest player must press the ball. Pressing requires a brave attitude and a belief that you can win the ball. For any press to be effective the whole team must be united in the approach. Closing Down: The first few yards have to be quick to ensure that the distance is closed quickly. As the opponent takes their first touch the defender needs to slow down, adjust their stance getting side on to be ready to defend. Force Direction: The defender must know the direction they wish to show the attacker. This will cause them to attack one foot on the attacker. The objective should be to show the attacking team towards where the defending team is strong. Positional Sense: Players must be goalside and ballside of their nearest opponent. From this position and defending the correct shoulder makes it harder f the attackers to break them down. Recovery Runs: All recovery runs need to be quick and have a purpose. As the nearest player to the ball will be pressing all other players deal with the next threat getting goalside of the next attacker.
