In this small-sided game we are looking at game management and being comfortable on the ball all over the pitch. The different scenarios will look at supporting passing angles, movement, patience and build-up play. Coach shouts one of three potential scenarios for the team in possession. 1) Normal - the aim of 'normal' is for the teams to play out a normal game situation, trying to score against their opponents with no restrictions. 2) Possession - the aim of 'possession' is for the team with the ball to keep possession of the ball in their own half; if the defending team win the ball back they then have to get the ball back to their half and try keep possession and so on.. 3) Barca - the aim of 'Barca' is the team in possession try to keep the ball in the opponents half. Prorgression: Get the teams to discuss what type of press might be the most effective against each condition and allow them to experiment. You can then adjust if you want them to work against specific pressing.
1. Deception - deception is a great tool to make passes and break down opponents press. 2. Different types of passes - a whole variation of passes can be used in this situation. Let the players experiment, what works in certain situations. 3. Movement and passing angles. Really coach this. Get in there and show them how to create supporting passing angles and creating space; this is vital in breaking down a defence and keeping possession.
