Dragging the covering defender

Very good interactive coaching drills.

DESCRIPTION

This drill is used to help with movement in the wings and to create chances in the wings. The drill uses the attacking fullback as a decoy to move the covering defender to open space for the winger to cross the ball. The drill will be in use in 2 different groups and after a 6 goes the defenders will switch with the attackers with the attacking fullback staying the same. At the start of the drill an attacker in a central position will play the ball into the winger and then move into the box to attack the ball. The attackers are looking to score and the defenders have to clear the ball away. The covering defender can only defend the attacking fullback.

Attackers should look to move to try and lose their marker so they can attack the ball and try and score.

The winger should look to play the ball into the box with their strong foot for an accurate cross.

Winger should look to play a variety of crosses into the box (floated, drilled, low & high).

Attacking fullback should try to drag the covering defender to the by line (Goal Line)

Defenders should be goal side of the attackers to give them the best chance of winning the ball over the attacker.
