Drill 6 - Change of Direction

Sportplan is a very helpful resource and I really enjoy the wonderful...
David

DESCRIPTION

Player to run to white cone and change direction to another cone. Starting with Predicted cones and the first low angled cones. Running at 40% ME and sprinting (70%) to the cones then decelerating after cones.

Progressions : Changing direction to the other cones with dotted straight lines. To increase angle of change of direction.

Change direction to a side step. Increase intensity of runs. Start to make drill unpredicted - don't tell player which cone until at the white cone or near.

regressions: Keep low angle cones, Don't increase sprint after white cone. Decrease distance.

Rationale: Change of direction is functional to football and predicted and unpredicted play occurs frequently in football so the hamstring and player will need to understand reaction times.

Unpredicted - Increases reaction time (Whitney et al., 2000) due to the increase in activity within the temporal facilitation mechanism due to reacting to an external stimuli.
