Player B starts with ball and dribbles towards passive defender C. Player A makes an overlapping run into space before receiving a pass from B. B then makes a run into the box for a cut back.
Progression- The defender is now active and the attacker B now has the option to either play the pass for the overlap or take on the defender themselves.
Time the run so player A is not past the ball before the pass is made.
For progression it is important to read the defender. If the defender is looking to close off the passing lane then perhaps taking on the defender is the better option. If they are looking to block the run then make use of the overlap.
