Two teams to play a game of touch. Focus on defensive line organisation and working together to apply concerted pressure to the attacking team.
When touched, attacking player must drop to the floor, jump up and drive into the defender (just a couple of steps) before dropping again and placing the ball correctly as per any conditions set. Second player to contact area will act as a S/H and continue attack.
Remaining defenders (not involved in the contact area) will drop back 3m, drop to the floor and jump up again before continuing, quickly organising their defence to cover space. They will then press as a line ideally pressuring the attack into mistakes and turnover ball.
Possible breakout
Line of cones to signify defensive line, ball
4x players and 1x coach
• Coach acts as opposition S/H
• Players can only move if the coach picks up the ball. Defenders should be talking to each other checking readiness.
• Once the ball is picked up the players should press as a line (ensure communication throughout)
• Reset is by backtracking (eyes towards opposition)/ensure communication throughout
Progressions
Have set coloured position cones so that players have to shuffle laterally ensuring spacing and communication. Ensure both directions (left and right) are covered.
