Wes, Rugby Coach

DESCRIPTION

Players jog forward until the coach doesn't call a side (left/right), then both lines have to set up in attack or defence (depending on session's focus)

VARIATIONS

Coach calls either side and situation (attack/defence) and both lines have to consequently set up

COACHING POINTS

DEFENCE

  • Look forward
  • Man marking/pointing (focus is on the man NOT the ball)
  • Communication (Hold-Up)
  • Line speed and structure (pushing up together)
  • Tackle and pillars

ATTACK

  • Quick set up of the line
  • Catch the ball on the speed
  • Run with pace
  • Cleaning in breackdowns (Over the ball-Hold strong)
  • Quick pick'n go
