Kicking for Territory

Great site and excellent drills. Easy to understand and apply in training....
Tyrone, Rugby Coach

DESCRIPTION

Kicking for territory in order to try and win possession back and improve field position.

COACHING POINTS

Communicate kicking call with whole team. (Raker 1/Raker 2 / Raker 3)

Ball must hit grass and roll into the areas demarcated by the squares.

Chasers must pressurize and keep chasing.

The objective is to not kick the ball out, but to cut down the angle the receiver has to,work with.

The pressure causes the receiver to kick the ball out close to his line, giving us terrritorial gain, and another attacking opportunity.

or

receiver will kick it back to us (hopefully poor kick as a result of pressure), giving us the opportunity to counter attack.
