Heather, Rugby Coach

DESCRIPTION

  • 2 players stand in the middle of a square, back to back. Each player has a red and white cone opposite them
  • Someone from outside the square (teacher, player) calls a colour. When called each player must run and touch their colour with their foot.
  • After this, Attacker (with the ball) tries to run past Defender and score whilst Defender tries to make a Tag
  • Defensive skills Key Points - go forward and close down the space of the attacker, keep eyes on the tag, step close to attacker when reaching for closest tag
  • Attacking skills Key Points - Always go forward, ready the body of the defender to make decision, see what way hips are facing and try to go the opposite way, use footwork, evasion, change of direction
  • This can be done as a stand alone practise, or set up pitch side for players to do as they wait to play games
