Footwork Box Drill

DESCRIPTION

Players required: 3 to 4 players 

Equipment required: 1 Netball Ball and 3 cones

Drill 1 (No ball required) 

• Players start on the left/right.
• Players side shuffle across to opposite cone.
• Player then moves diagonal from that cone and sprint forward/quick feet and do move back to the same cone backwards. 
• Player then sprints forward past the remaining cone. 

Drill 2 (Adding the ball)

• Same movement as drill 1 
• Introduce a feeder a to the drill. Player stands 1m away from the box. 
• Directly after side shuffle the feeder passes a bounce pass to the player to receive. The player returns the ball with a straight pass.
• Player runs diagonal run and on their way backward receives a high pass. Player returns in the ball with a straight pass. 
• Player the sprint forward past the last cone and replaces the feeder. 
• Feeder joins the back of the line. 

Drill 3

• Same movement as drill 1. 
• Feeders passes a bounce pass at the top of the diagonal cone and the player returns the ball with a straight pass. 
• As the player returns to the back cone going diagonal the feeder passes a straight pass. Players catches and returns with a straight pass and drives forward past the final cone. 
• Player takes the place of the feeder becoming the new feeder. 

COACHING POINTS

Drill 1: The aim of this is to get players working on the change of directions and speed without the ball. 

• When doing the side shuffle players need move side ways with quick feet.
• When moving diagonal forward there needs to be a change of pace and players need to alternate forward. 

Drill 2 & 3

• Bounce pass can be released before the player has reached the cone to force them to move quickier.
• Bounce passes need to be low passes. 
• Ensure that once the player has made the final pass back to the feeder that the player drives forward sprinting past the final cone.
