DESCRIPTION

Task 1 Numbers/Position

  • Player are divided into 2 teams and numbered or in bibs.
  • The teams stand opposite sides of the netball court, with a ball placed in the centre.
  • 2 positions are called and those players on each team must run to get the ball, pass it to one another to score a goal – the other team are require to do stage 2 defending.
  • Instead of 2 numbers or position called coach to call 1 but the other player would need to realise that it is their opponent called and run to defend. 
  • Players can be moved to the 2 third lines and be defenders along the court line.

 

COACHING POINTS

What is stage 2 defence?

Get all the players mimicking stage 2 defence in pairs.

What are the coaching points?

Stage 2 is to apply pressure on the pass

  • Feet on the ground
  • Take up a position 0.9m in front of the player with the ball asap
  • Fully stretch to cover the space as near the ball as possible
  • Cover the space in front of the ball and the space to the side with both hands shadowing
  • Focus on the ball and the players eyes

 

  • The defence may jump however when airborne the attacker may move around the defender
