Defensive Circle Switch 3

I found this service to be excellent and it was of great help when...
Jo, Netball Coach

DESCRIPTION

As the GA comes down the court, the GD suceeds in getting her on her back, and driving her along the sideline into the baseline.

GD does not need to follow all the way into the corner. There is an opportunity to slide front onto the GS and GK pick up the baseline run.

(Link to drill Defending on court (3))

NOTE! If you do follow her or the GK switches and cuts off her drive, be prepared for the cut back!

Progression: If the GA does get the front cut, how quickly can the GK pick her up? How GD needs to be aware of the lifted ball to the GS! See sketch in Defensive Circle Switch 4

COACHING POINTS

  • feet under body, head and eyes up
  • angled on your player, be strong and focussed on your first job, which is to drive her onto baseline. If you come off her too early, she can front cut to top
  • if GK taking on the front cut, can she get the intercept from a dropped ball (as in drill 1?); if that ball is then lifted to GS, can the GD switch and move quick enough to get that intercept?
