Channeling - defend the centre

Great site. An absolute must for coaches who are willing to change...
Ignatius

DESCRIPTION

For younger players mark a wedge shaped area using cones and challenge the attacker to move the ball into it within a given time.

Defenders win automatically if they take posession of the ball.

Attackers win if they dribble the ball into the area or complete a pass to their teammate, who has to stay inside the cones.

Both defenders have freedom to move in or out of the marked area.

COACHING POINTS

Practice reading and using body movement to deceive the defence and body postioning to channel the attackers.

Learn to move players onto or away from their strong side

Defenders can also learn to read the game to decide where the threat lies - do I leave the area to help?
