1v1 Channel

Excellent, used the drills at our first training session today with...
Shane, Hockey Coach

DESCRIPTION

Two teams are needed for this activity. One group will be the attackers and the other group will defend. Coaches can switch the teams roles after a few times through the activity.

Each team lines up behind a centre cone as shown. In the teams number the players.

The coach will shout 2 numbers. The first is for the attackers and the second for the defenders.

The player who's number is called from each team must run round their end cone and enter the channel.

The attacker must try to keep control of the ball and get past the opposite edge of the channel to score. The defender must try to tackle and play the ball out of the channel.

Once the ball is dead (scored or played out) the players return to their line and 2 new numbers are called.

COACHING POINTS

The attacker should attack at speed and remain facing forwards, not turning their back on the defender, where possible.

The defender should close down the attackers space but not dive in for the tackle.

This practice can also be adapted for 2v1s in favour of the attack or defence by calling 2 numbers from one team.
