Attacking using an aerial

I love using Sportplan. It's been a great help for co-ordinating hockey...
Laura, Hockey Coach

DESCRIPTION

The players will play a 2v1 but the ball must start with an aerial. The defender (red) must start on the 25' line but can move once the aerial has been thrown.

Once the ball starts moving it is a simple 2v1 to see if the attacks can score. Each side takes it in turns to attack.

Make sure to bring the players in to talk about where the support player should run:

  • Should he go for a deflection?
  • Should he go to the top of the D?
  • Should he run to the corner to make a bounce pass?

Make sure you rotate the defenders often as they will get tired.
