DESCRIPTION

Possession practice working on playing through centrally

Players positioned as in diagram

  • 2 reds in each DF third
  • 3 Central midfielders in middle grid.

Red team have to play from GK to GK

Progressions

  • go into a equal numbers game with same field format

COACHING POINTS

Manipulate the numbers to change the scenarios from playing out from the back and playing into midfield.

Discuss these changes and concepts with the players.

For example, in the current digram - there is only 1 blue in the defensive thrid, thus an overload for the team playing out.

  • more patience may be requried to play into midfield as player will be matched up in there, so maovements may take more time to develop to allow us to play forward
  • Could then, for example, send 2 FWs into DF third to press, thus meaning more space opens up in midfeild. How does this affect the decisions made for the players?

Progressions

  • allow players to change zones
  • e.g., 1 MF can drop in, or 1 MF can advnmce forward.
