Jockeying 1v1 and 2v1

DESCRIPTION

  • Defender passes ball across space and then closes
  • Side on, knees bent, weight on toes. Don't dive in
  • Track attacker with ball trying to force them out wide away from the centre line
  • Start with just movement and body position practice
  • Defender tries to win ball now during jockeying (attack with front foot), attacker must keep ball moving
  • Defender needs to be moving backwards before engaging attacker to ensure they can keep up

  • Progress to 2v1 with lone defender now trying to hold up play
  • Show attacker out wide and position between 2 attackers whilst maintaining pressure on ball
  • Priority is delaying players
  • Close gap quickly when ball passed to other player
