Making space to receive a throw-in

Love the site, it's a fantastic learning tool!
Ian

DESCRIPTION

Set out 4 zones as far as you wish from the sideline (as shown using flat cones) and have a player on the line to provide accurate throw-ins.

Leave one zone without any players. Only 1 pair (blue & red) can be in a zone at anyone time. So, if a Red player moves into the spare zone, his marking blue player must follow/predict this. This vacates a zone, which another pair can move to occupy.

If a blu fails to read his red partners move in time, then the throwin to the red is possible.

COACHING POINTS

Promotes movement

Awareness of vacated space

Urges players not to remain static

Promotes close control from the throw

Promotes quicker and smarter throwins

Helps explain how to mark players at the throwin.

Created for my U10 session. For younger players, you the receiving players could catch the ball until they get used to the idea.

Progressions -

  • Make the areas smaller/larger
  • More zones (always leave one empty)
  • Move the zones further from the thrower
