Purpose of exercise:
To improve our ability to create overloads in possesion through effective movement off the ball with the eventual outcome of creating a goal scoring opportunity.
The set up of the exercise is as it is shown on the diagram(right).
The goalkeeper starts the phase of play by taking a goal kick. The back 4 attack the ball and play into one of the central midfielders . The central Midfielder then bounces back to the CB. At this stage the right or left fullback advances high up the pitch to allow for the central midfielder to drop in as a fullback and create a 2v1 overload in the channel.
From this point the central midfeilder then is the decision maker. The pattern of play then takes different directions dependant on where the next pass is recieved. If played to the No.9 a one two can be played before releasing the No.7/No.11. Or if the pass is played into the No.7/No.11 in the first instance we can look to create an overlap. The exercise is unopposed to allow for the players to get a grasp of the movements and pattern of play. Before adding in defenders for the next progression.
