DESCRIPTION

Setup

Begin practice with two even teams (if possible):

  • Team A (Blue) - Attacking the main goal AND defending the smaller scoring gates.
  • Team B (Yellow) - Along with the GK, defending the main goal and trying to score in the scoring gates.

Use half or 2/3rds of a pitch - make smaller to increase intensity.

We are looking for the Blue striker to attempt to defend the gate closest to the goalkeeper, a fullback or midfielder to defend the widest gate and a defender or deep midfielder to defend to gate furthest from the GK.

The Yellow team are looking to remain organised and pass the ball into spaces to create scoring chances. If a gate is defended can they work the ball into space to attack a different gate ?

Coaching Points

  • Both sides need to communicate well and remain organised.
  • This exercise is about remaining organised and ensuring that the ball goes where we want it to.
  • If someone doesn't do there job then the opposition can pick a pass and have the whole pitch to hurt us.
