The Drill begins with the students lined up behind the orange cone at the top of the 3 point line. the coach is stood underneath the basket acting as a defender.
students are asked to pair up. player 1 will start with the ball and will be tasked with "drawing the defender". player 2 will start without the ball but will act as the "cutter".
when the coach blows the whistle player 1 will dribble forwards attacking the middle of the basket. this will cause the defender (in red) to step out of position.
meanwhile, player 2 runs to the blue cone (encourages proper spacing on attack) before cutting towards the basket.
player 1 will now have to apply one of the three passing techniques (Bounce, chest, overhead) to feed the cutting player the ball with the correct timing to allow a lay up or shot.
tell the students to swap roles each time so they both get a chance to practice the skill.
Coaching Points:
- encourage communication using names and calling for the ball
- dribble with the head up to see defender to see available pass
- accurate pass "on time and on target" (aiming for players hands)
