Circle edge drive

This drill enables players to begin to link the movement patterns up the court from the centre pass. 2 lines of players beginning in the centre third, 1 shooter and 1 defender in the shooting area. Players in 1 line have a ball each, player in opposite line sprints to receive a pass on the circle edge. Feeder (after passing ball) also drives to circle edge to support the first attacking player. Meanwhile the attacking player with the ball passes to the shooter and makes a shot for goal. Players then join the back of the line and the next pair attack.

Intercept With Defence

Set up GS and GK in the shooting circle. Two midcourt players start with the ball in the centre third towards the transverse line. One player in the centre of the court (C), one on the side (WA). Put a bib on a player to be the floating defender. Ball starts with the player in the center and is passed square to the other midcourt player who passes straight back. Floating defender to put pressure on these passes- hands over the ball. The WA player on the side then drives as if heading to the pocket, in the same channel. C player passes a long ball to the pocket for the WA. GK comes out of the circle hunting for that long ball to the WA ensuring the timing is right. If GK is successful, they then pass back to the C and drive up the court. Floating defender to defend the GK player coming up the court and trying to get the next ball. GK player will need to dodge or front cut in order to get free for the pass from the C player.

Interception

Ball starts with the player in the center and is passed square to the other midcourt player who passes straight back. The WA player on the side then drives as if heading to the pocket, in the same channel. C player passes a long ball to the pocket for the WA. GK comes out of the circle hunting for that long ball to the WA ensuring the timing is right. If GK is successful, they then pass back to the C and drive up the court.

In pairs moving up the court passing the ball to each other while side hopping and facing each other at all time.

Passing down the axis of the court

The GK faces the back wall away from the court, throws the ball up in the air, rotates, receives and releases the ball to the next player. The next player up the line drives into space, with a sharp change of direction and also receives, rotates and then releases the ball to the next player up the line.

Set out the players as shown. The path of the ball should be straight. The players should move onto the ball in anticipation for maximum speed of transferring the ball up the court. After having passed the ball the player either keeps moving and approach the ball from the opposite side or the player can return to their original side to wait for the ball to come back down the court.

Player Step up the court and with each step they move the ball between the legs.

Example GD clears and runs in a crest WD moves to receives ball from GK and passes the ball to GD GD then passes the ball to C The Centre should take up a position just over the transverse line in the centre third. This will prevent congestion in the goal third and give the WD and GD space to bring the ball through and consequently the ball carrier has an option of a team-mate ready to receive ball further up the court. The WD and GD are set up as shown. One of these players will cut across the other (taking her opponent with her). This creates space for the other player to drive into with the opponents chasing. The player who drives across (this is called clearing out) continues to run in a crest shape and offers for the next pass. The subsequent pass may well go to the Centre and by now the ball should be 2/3rd up the court in 3 passes. If the timing is correct the ball should travel up the court in a straight line. The team has successfully converted good defence work into an exciting attack.

Movement

The Three Musketeers

Split players into 3s. White players are attackers, the blue players are the defenders. The 3 attackers aim is to get to the other end of the court. They must make 3 passes in each third before progressing to the next one (3 defenders in each, this can start as static defence and gradually become more active as the attack progresses). Players attack up the court twice and then down the court twice before switching with the next group of three.

First posts move down and will become the workers in the next round.

Set up: 6+ players, full court space, 1-4 balls, 8 conesThree cones are set up across the width of the court about a meter in from the sideline. In groups of three players line up across from each other behind the cones. Cones may be placed along the sideline so player understand they are to stay on the outside of theses cones but still in court. The ball starts with the middle person. Player on the left cone drives out straight and receives a pass from the middle. Middle person then runs to the person they passed the ball to. Player on left who received the pass, deliveries the ball to the third player who has driven out on the right. When players pass they the follow it to the player they have passed to take their position. Players continue this ‘weave’ down the court.

Drill 1. Start with a gentle jog around the court, throwing in some sidesteps, high knees and heel flicks. Drill 2. Line up two teams on opposite sides of the court and give each player a number or position. On the coach's call the players who has had their numbers called spint into the center, touch the cone and then run back to their touchline. Drill 3. Finish with some back and forth running. Players complete 10 runs (there and back) as quickly as possible.

Full team cross drillSet up: 8+ players, one court space, 2 balls.Players set up in four corners in equal numbers, opposite lines facing each other.Both balls start on the same side with the person and the front of the line.Opposing front 2 players drive out on a diagonally and receive a pass from the opposite line.They turn pass back to the side they came from (but the opposite line). Then immediately become a defender for the person who now has the ball. Station 2: 2 feeders, feeder 1 delivering a loose, short pass, worker to receive and pass back, then drive back for a long pass from feeder 2. x8 reps and then worker to move to next station. Station 3: 2 feeders, Short pass from feeder 1, short pass from feeder 2, medium pass from feeder 1 and then a long pass from feeder 2. x8 reps and then worker to move to next station. Station 4: 2 feeders, two short flat passes alternating between feeders, one long pass from feeder 1, worker turns and passes to the wall, catches and returns the ball to feeder 1. x8 reps and then worker to move to next station.When workers have been to each station, swap with a feeder and repeat.

I have found that my players worked well as a group and also really enjoyed a Quiz about Netball (both rules and history of netball in general)but I have run out of questions, I usually only finish our training sessions with one question for each member of our team and use any the following week that they got wrong so they are learning at the same time. If you have any ideas please let me know as I have searched the web and every other resource I can find, Some of the questions I have used are How many seconds can you hold the ball? How far away do you need to be before arms go up to defend? How is a short pass measured? Where does a ball need to be touched first after a centre pass? Name 2 examples of Good spartsmanship? Name the 7 Positions in a Netball Game How many players on a Netball court during a Game? (trick question, usually andswered with 7, keeps them on their toes) In which Country did netball begin? What is the Name of the Australian Netball Team? What time do we turn up for a Game on Saturdays? If you land on 2 feet while catching the ball, which foot can you pivot on? U10's making space and passing the ball early?

Hello all, I have been coaching my u10's currently for 2 years now. They are a fabulous little team i.e. gs holds and defence box out etc however we are never winning games! They are currently playing up a year and after sitting back and watching what is going wrong I had noticed they all seem to be in one area so no-one can drive into a space to receive a direct fast ball. When this occasionally does happen the ball is not released fast enough and consequently intercepted! I was wondering if anyone has an tips on space, driving into space, and early passes! This team could be amazing if we sort this is out! Please help!!!!!!!!!

Marking a player off court? | ...

This happened numerous times in a recent game where the GD was blocking the GA up the court and the GA left the court and tried to return from the back line under the post. The GA was insisting that the GD was "marking off court" and on a couple of occasions the umpire called this and awarded a penalty to GA under the post? The GD was on court at all time whilst marking.
